Womens' Day Gala Concert 10-Mar-2008
Yesterday Andrea Gerak performed in Sweden for a Gala Concert celebrating 100th anniversary of the International Womens' Day. The event was a cooproduction between the Embassies of Italy, Hungary and Venezuela, opened by Italy's Ambassador, also attended by the Ambassador of Honduras.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm provided perfect settings for the musical performance.
Andrea's acapella Hungarian folk songs enchanted the audience, as well as the arias sung by Venezuelan born soprano Gabriela Gonzales-Toledo, accompanied by Anders Wadenberg on piano.

A song travelling through the ether, after having been recorded 40 years ago in a village of Malaita, Solomon Islands in the South Pacific. A folk song called Rorogwela, a lullaby sung by an elderly woman.

Andrea Gerak has been often mentioned as "the enigmatic Hungarian female voice", by fans and by the media as well.
Andrea had her first stage performance at the age of 5. From a few years later on, she has been singing and dancing in several folklore groups in Hungary, including the famous Bartok Ensemble. Often she was the soloist as a singer and/or dancer. With the groups and later in her solo career, she appeared in almost all countries of Europe.

From Borsod to World-Wide Fame - KOZELET Interview 7-Sep-2006 The internationally more and more known Hungarian singer Andrea Gerak (born in Ozd and raised up in Kazincbarcika of Borsod county) has been compared to Enya and Sally Oldfield as well. In Hungary, she's been classified in the same stream as Marta Sebestyen, Katalin Szvorak, Iren Lovasz or Beata Palya. She lives now in Stockholm, Sweden.
