Back in the early 70's (1973, to be precise), Andy and David Williamsappeared on 10 consecutive "Tiger Beat" and "16 Magazine" covers, as
well as on just about every variety show that existed, and a memorable
"Partridge Family" episode, too.
The careers of the identical twin brothers (b. February 22,1959)
are proof that you can, indeed, get there from here. Their brief time as teen idols
began in 1972, when a photo printed in Flip magazine triggered a flood of fan mail.
Two albums followed (the second was produced by Partridge Family mastermind Wes Farrell), and while record company distribution problems plagued the brothers
stateside, they scored Top 40 hits in England and Japan. After a move to a more
mature sound (1974's exquisite "I Don't Know How to Say Goodbye") got little airplay, the Williamses withdrew from recording in order to attend music school. They re-emerged as a power-pop duo in the late 80's, then moved on to folk-acoustic-pop in the early 90's. They've since gone on to rack up an impressive list of joint and individual production and performance credits, and a much-covered hit single, "Can't Cry Hard Enough".
