 A Star Is Born !!
A lad with well-trimmed black hair, full lips, cheeks of cream, indeterminate nose and eyebrows, the boy in which nature seemed to have molded the best generic character of boyhood - this is Basit Subhani for you in the first glance. On a deeper look you’ll get a glimpse of openness, a gaze of dark-eyed boy that invites everyone to look through him but behind those gutsy looks there hides a more spirited Basit who is secretly trying to develop a repute for his music cadences. His great upbeat original music is what makes Basit Subhani different from the others of the celebrity posse.
Basit made his way to the music industry when he was just 16 years old. Recently turned 22, Basit Subhani started performing publicly in July 2000 before a group of reporters and music lovers at the PBC Building, Islamabad for a Drought Relief Concert where he got the audiences on their toes and made his presence felt in the giants like Junaid Jamshed, Falam & The Arid Zone.
He has been privately trained by Ustad Babar Ali Khan who is a great classical singer and a student of the legend Madam Noor Jehan. Lately he has been very well monitored by many celebrity vocalists like Ustad Hamid Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, Adnan Sami Khan, Shehzad Roy, Amir Saleem, and Haroon Rasheed.
In the last one year, he has spent long hours in Digital Inn Studios, Islamabad where one of the best music producers and pianist Ali Mustafa is composing and recording some great songs. Ali Mustafa is widely considered to be the best in the technological music in Pakistan. Basit Subhani & Ali Mustafa are almost done with their first album. Since their 1st single Kaash Mil Jaye was out, offers have started flowing in .But they are taking their time out.
Basit’s high energy songs explore a variety of styles, including Trance, Techno, Garage, Hip Pop, Chill out and Rock but all exhibit strong melodic lines, and punchy meaningful lyrics which express the highs and lows of urban teenage experience. He speaks to his generation in their own words , with rare eloquence and poignancy.
Basit recently recorded Pyar mein Intezar mein , a tribute of love for all the lovers in his teenage pop style. His masterpiece is aptly titled Aa Bhi Jaa , a beautiful demonstration of vocal range. Ali’s wonderful music has left even master musicians shaking their heads in wonderment .
His most successful song to date is Kaash Mil Jaaye , which is dedicated to the youth of Pakistan.Aided by its infectious dance rhythms and irresistible ‘hook’ line , Kaash Mil Jaaye shot up the charts of the Fm stations all over the world and all the major web sites representating Pakistani music . Most recently Basit Subhani was featured in Asian Studies review of their Top 10 unsigned artists (whose albums have not yet been released ) of the Asia . This honour entails recognition as a world-class artist , exceptional amongst more than 10,000 artists from around the Asian continent .
Basit and Ali Mustafa has performed Kaash Mil Jaaye for a variety of audiences , including interviews for several radio stations & Tv programs . Most of Basit’s circle of fans consists equally of accomplished musicians and singers , humanitarian figures , kids and the college going youth who can identify them with him and his music. Within less than a few years , Basit already has listeners around the world , essentially through exposure of his songs over the Internet. At the time of writing, nearly a Lac people worldwide have accessed his songs via the Internet alone.
Apart from his music, Basit has got along very well in his academic career. He is done with Masters in Information Technology from Pimsat. Not an easy task , when you are spending most of the energies on your music.Besides this he has been working for Step ( Students Talent Exchange Program) which is a network for Assistance and Leadership Training of People With disabilities. It's a non profit organization which was initiated by few special students.He also plans to allocate most of his album’s funds to some charities like Sameen Haqqi’s project of installation of burning units & laters plans to work with the talented Dj in a lot of shows and an album .
One has to say the guys certainly knows his capabilities as a singer. He has lived a little, witnessed the pit fall strewn pathway to stardom and, somehow, has found himself on the verge of public acceptance. Young, immensely talented, humble and eligible, the best of days are ahead of this singer.
