The Brittany Murphy Experience
Brittany Murphy was born to Sharon Murphy on November 10th, 1977 in Atlanta GA. (Her parents would later divorce.) She grew up in the NY/NJ area and later moved to Burbank, CA. There she graduated from John Burroughs High School.
As far as getting started in the film industry... Brittany appeared in her first regional theatre production at age 9. She also performed a song in the play, 'Les Miserables', while attending Herbert Hoover Middle School in Edison, NJ. As a preteen she hired a manager and began making commercials before moving to Hollywood in 1991. Soon after arriving in Hollywood Brittany landed a role on the TV sitcom 'Drexell's Class'.
Ms. Murphy is also a very talented singer! In the early nineties she was in a music group with Haylie Johnson, Eric Balfour and Brian Friedman known as 'Blessed With Soul'. This year she will play the part of Janis Joplin in the movie 'A Piece Of My Heart', in which she will perform many of Janis Joplin's songs.
Early in her career she co-starred along side of Dabney Coleman and A.J. Langer in the aforementioned TV comedy 'Drexell's Class'. And then later she appeared in another sit-com, 'Almost Home'...a spin-off of 'The Torkelsons'. In 1998 she appeared in the TV movie 'David & Lisa', in which she played opposite of Luke Haas.
Brittany has starred and co-starred in many films in the past few years. Also, not too long ago Ms. Murphy starred in a play entitled 'A View From The Bridge'.
She has recently starred in such films as The Devil's Arithmetic, Girl Interupted and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Currently you can hear Brittany as the voice of Luanne on FOX's animated sitcom 'King Of The Hill'.
Brittany Murphy currently lives in the Los Angeles area with her mother Sharon.
