 KOKUA FOR KATRINA Raises at least $65,000 20-Sep-2005
Willie K. and his band, Barefoot Natives, provided some of the entertainment during Yesterday's "Kokua for Katrina" benefit at Aloha Tower, which was broadcast live on local TV stations.
A "Chefs for Hope" fundraiser is planned for Aloha Tower tonight.
Volunteers man the phones at Aloha Tower, taking calls during the concert for donations to help Hurricane Katrina victims.
Radio personality Larry Price best described yesterday's Hurricane Katrina benefit concert at Kapono's at Aloha Tower Marketplace, calling it a "Category 5 aloha bash."

Initial report: "Hawai'i cares" And the show is still going on till midnight HST!
I managed to get connected a few times for the webcast and then lost the signal entirely. What I did manage to view was extreemly well done, performances lively and upbeat, and it looked very well attended.
Kapono was in fine voice! Saw a few other familiar faces too. Unfortunately the broadcast wasn't the best, as I had the same report from others. Oh by the way it clicked back on for the last song when everyone joined in and sang. C&K's "Friends" off of their 30 Years of Friends Vol. 1 Reunion CD.

HENRY KAPONO KA'AIHUE, pictured on the right (Kapono as he is known) is of pure Hawaiian decent. He was born and raised on the island of Oahu in the small town of Kapahulu, located just outside Waikiki. Christened Kapono by his mother, it is the Hawaiian word for righteous. His family surroundings provided the early musical influence that directed him into his present career. He is a humanitarian, a prolific award winning songwriter, an accomplished actor and has produced numerous albums, video works and concerts.
