 Dixie Chicks' 'Long Way' Nests In At No. 1 3-Jun-2006
For the third time in their career, the Dixie Chicks roost on the top of The Billboard 200. The Columbia album "Taking the Long Way" tallied 526,000 copies in its first week of U.S. sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the trio's best-selling week since 2002's "Home" debuted with 780,000.
And while country radio has remained cool to the group in the wake of a 2003 boycott following comments group member Natalie Maines made about President Bush, "Taking the Long Way" also nabs the No. 1 spot on the Country Albums chart, bumping Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" (Lyric Street/Hollywood) dow

"The stakes were definitely higher on that song. We knew it was special because it was so autobiographical, and we had to get it right," says The Dixie Chicks' Emily Robison about the trio's "Not Ready to Make Nice," a song which stems from bandmate Natalie Maines' headline-grabbing controversial comments about President George W. Bush and the subsequent tumult that ensued. "And once we had that song done, it freed us up to do the rest of the album without that burden."

BILLBOARD.COM - The Dixie Chicks are in Los Angeles recording a new album with producer Rick Rubin. No release date has been pegged for the Open Wide/Columbia set, which will be the follow-up to 2002's "Home." As previously reported, Rubin recently produced the next Columbia album from veteran vocalist Neil Diamond, due this summer.

 Natalie Maines Performs at Charity Event in Austin 12-Jan-2005
Dixie Chicks lead vocalist Natalie Maines made a surprise appearance at Sunday's (Jan. 9) tsunami relief concert in Austin, Texas. Performing with Joe Ely and Patty Griffin, Maines also joined Bruce Robison on "Travelin' Soldier," his song the Dixie Chicks recorded on their 2002 album, Home. The Tsunami Relief: Austin for South Asia concert at the Austin Music Hall was headlined by Willie Nelson and raised approximately $67,000. (CMT.com)

The Dixie Chicks' recording of "Travelin' Soldier" will be featured on a new CD of music that inspired filmmaker Michael Moore's controversial film about President George Bush's reaction following the World Trade Center bombing. The album also features songs by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Nanci Griffith, John Fogerty, Pearl Jam and the Clash, according to CMT.
