New Recognition Sought For Guy Williams 3-May-2001
A new fan based campaign has begun to get a commemorative stamp issued by the United States Postal Service honoring the late Guy Williams. Fans spurred by the recent success of the grass roots effort to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame recognizing Guy Williams' many contributions to the entertainment industry, have begun a campaign petitioning recognition. The Guy Williams Remembered Memorial Fan Club is serving as the clearinghouse for petitions. They have set a goal of collecting 5,000 signatures. Because of you, fans who signed petitions and wrote letters of support, Guy Williams will be honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame sometime next year. Guy Williams was born Armando Catalano in New York, January 14, 1924. His parents had recently immigrated from Sicily. Guy was a successful male model before moving to California and an acting career.
In the early 50's, Guy was going from one bit part to another. He was on the verge of giving up his dream of an acting career when he was chosen to portray the masked man of justice. At the time, Guy told a TV Guide reporter that he got the part not because he could act, but because of his skill with the sabre.
