Ten years after his death on June 26, 1997, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole remains a powerful influence on modern Hawaiian music and culture, both at home and abroad. He has, arguably, achieved iconic status; that his fame was built in large part on a medley of two songs with no connection to Hawai‘i seems almost irrelevant. The sounds of his gentle ukulele and sweet tenor remain as popular as ever; adults and children alike continue to listen and play his music, embracing his Wonderful World.
SPECIAL FEATURE
