Seattle, WA - The ukulele talents of 28-year-old Jake Shimabukuro from Honolulu, Hawaii will shine Friday, April 7, 2006 at 8:00 PM in the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall.
One of the world's leading ukulele players, a crowd of over 3,000 honored him with a standing ovation after an intense performance at Marion McCaw Hall at Bumbershoot 2004. Since, he's sold out three performances in the Puget Sound area in Kirkland, Auburn, and Bremerton.
Though Jake has full respect for his roots in traditional Hawaiian ukulele music, he skillfully blends jazz, blues, funk, pop, Hawaiian and rock to create music that demonstrates the instrument's broad range of capabilities, as well as his own. Often referred to as the 'ukulele master.'
From a modest beginning performing at the local café to performing in front of 25,000 at Great Woods in Boston and 42,000 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Jake has earned the reputation as an incredible performer. He's also played venues such as the House of Blues and The Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, B.B. King's Nightclub in NYC and the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. A true showman, his performances captivate audiences with intricate strumming and plucking techniques, electrifying, high-energy grooves and smooth, melodic ballads evoking heartfelt emotion.
Shimabukuro's performance is hosted by Na Mele O Hawai`i, a Seattle-based concert promotions company committed to serving the growing Pacific Islander community in the Northwest. Tickets are $25 and still available through TicketMaster at 206-292-ARTS and in person at the Benaroya Hall Box Office.
