Keali`i Reichel Hawaiian music
What on the surface may appear to be a case of "overnight success" is anything but that. Keali'i's years of work and dedication to the perpetuation of Hawaiian language, culture, hula, and chanting led him down the road to stardom. The overwhelming success of his subsequent releases firmly established him as the preeminent Hawaiian artist of the 1990s.
He's a popular and bestselling singer, songwriter, choreographer, dancer, chanter, scholar, teacher, and personality from the State of Hawaii.
All told, he has been awarded 17 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, and been nominated in Hawaii's first Grammy category. Through his busy schedule he retains the initial goal of presenting new compositions in the Hawaiian language for hula students, and works to dispel long-held stereotypes of his birthplace. He has traveled extensively in the US Mainland, Japan, and the South Pacific spreading his message of Hawai`i and the living culture of her indigenous people.
Keali'i's SEATTLE concert took place under clear skies on August 20 with the Space Needle in the distance. The enthusiastic audience showed their appreciation for the song and dance of Hawai`i. Sending cheers of well wishes from Hawaiians and Haoles alike.
