"My laptop was completely ruined when my office flooded. Even the hard disk was wrecked; but I didn't lose a single document."

Louise Brooks Society anniversary In August of 2002, the Louise Brooks Society (http://www.pandorasbox.com) celebrates its seventh year online. And sometime this month, the website will also enjoy its 750,000th visitor.
Begun in 1995, the LBS has grown to become the largest, most popular and most comprehensive website devoted to any silent film star. The site contains more than 200 pages of material - including an on-line archive of articles, interviews and ephemera (including much vintage material), a portrait gallery, filmography, commentary, bibliographies, links and contributions from fans around the world. This site also serves as home to the Louise Brooks Society - the world's first "virtual fan club" in cyberspace. At last count, its approximately 1100 members hail from 43 countries on six continents.
Highlights of the site's first seven years include a successful grassroots internet campaign to bring "Lulu in Hollywood" and the Barry Paris biography back into print; the adoption for classroom use of various pages on the site; and the inclusion of material in its on-line archive in various European books. The popularity of the site also helped inspire the production of the award winning Turner Classic Movies documentary, "Looking for Lulu."
The LBS has been recommended by the Encyclopedia Brittanica's Brittanica's Internet Guide, featured on the Microsoft Network's "One Click Away," as well as being named an USA Today Hot Site, Open Directory Cool Site, Celebrity Site of the Day, and Hollywood Site of the Week.
Just last month, in an article about Brooks, the Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper in Germany referred to the website as "exemplary." From the San Francisco Examiner to the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, the LBS has been similarly praised in other publications. Here's what others have said about the website:
"Silent-film buffs can get a taste of how a fan club from yesteryear plays on the Web. The Louise Brooks Society site includes interview, trivia and photos. It also draws an international audience." --- USA Today
