Tarkan Tevetoglu was born in Germany in 1972, but returned with his parents to Turkey at the age of 15 to pursue an education in classical music. His first CD 'Yine Sensiz' (Without You Again) was released four years later.
In Istanbul, he studied classical music and worked in clubs and discotheques until, at the age of 19, the good-looking singer/songwriter released his debut album, "Yine Sensiz", which sold over 700,000 copies. Follow-up albums, such as "Ölürüm Sana" and "Tarkan", sold several million each and confirmed his superstar status.
Since then Tarkan has sold over seven million records in Turkey and Europe.
Today Tarkan, whose music combines traditional oriental elements with modern beats and sounds, is one of the tops stars in Europe, Asia and the USA. The pervasiveness of his influence was illustrated recently when Holly Valance enjoyed world success with "Kiss Kiss", a cover version of the Tarkan hit "Simarik".
To most young Turks, Tarkan is more than just a popstar. He also represents the popular Western Pop Culture evident in Turkey today. His fans also state that Turkan is living proof of the fact that it is possible for immigrants to 'make it' in Europe. Tarkan is the first Turkish musician to have hits at the top of the charts in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.
Everyone is now waiting for his latest offering, a Europe-wide release of his first English language single.
