Monkee Fans Petition For Uncut Concert On DVD On August 31, 2001, legendary 60s pop band, The Monkees, consisting of original group members Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, & Davy Jones (Michael Nesmith chooses to sit out), performed a concert at the Sun Theatre in Anaheim, CA that was filmed & recorded by King Biscuit Entertainment. This concert held historical value because it was group member, Peter Tork's last concert with the band to date. That night, The Monkees performed over 30 songs & comedy bits. All were a special & important part of the unforgetable 2+ hour show. In late-December 2001 Monkee fans rallied together with a petition to get this concert released on DVD. Originally, fans wanted the whole, uncut performance because of each part’s significance to the overall performance. With about 700 signatures, King Biscuit acknowledged the fans’ efforts, but when the DVD was finally released on November 12, 2002, as “Live Summer Tour,” only 18 songs were included for a total of 59 minutes of footage. Happy with the quality of what they got, but disappointed in the lack of concert included, Monkee fans started urging King Biscuit to release the full concert on a limited edition DVD, even if it was only available from King Biscuit's online store. The company responded with the announcement of a special Pay-Per-View event of the extended & uncut concert that would air on July 18, 2003. In early June 2003, the PPV broadcast was abruptly postponed indefinitely and Monkee fans quickly showed their disappointment.
Now, King Biscuit has suggested that another petition be started to show them what the level of interest from fans is about seeing the complete performance. Led by the Monkeesrule43 Fan Site (http://www.monkeesrule43.homestead.com), an officially licensed and popular Monkees website, fans have joined together once again to petition for the uncut release. Whether it be on Pay-Per-View or limited edition DVD (which is highly prefered), all fans care is that this footage is available to them one way or another.
The Monkees, a made-for-TV band that originated in 1966 with such hits as “I’m A Believer,” “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone,” “Daydream Believer,” and “Last Train To Clarksville,” have enjoyed a long-lasting popularity & dedicated fan base that led to reunions in 1986-1989, 1996-1997, as well as in 2001-2002.
