Whoa. Where were you on April 12? This year, the fourth annual Yuri’s Night -- a global celebration of human spaceflight on the anniversary of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's 108-minute orbit around the Earth in 1961 -- spanned 76 parties in 34 countries on 7 continents! In Los Angeles, a VIP event brought together celebrities. Ray Bradbury, author of classics including The Martian Chronicles and Farenheit 451, kicked off festivities at the Encounter Restaurant and Bar with the coolest of the cool, check out some of the list: the Mars Rover team, space-tourist Dennis Tito, Vanna Bonta (FLIGHT), X-Prize/ISU founder Peter Diamandis, Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura of Star Trek), Lance Bass (NSYNC), space advocates, geeks and poets – all co-partying with others around the world, oh and don’t forget the beamed in message from the I.S.S. crew. Okay, so we all know that in Bonta’s space age tale, FLIGHT, for a minute anyway, humanity gets it together long enough to have a global rave. Lt. Uhura has been inspiring new explorers even longer. Seems like the time is here. Next Yuri’s Night, April 12th, The World Space Party, be there, have one, throw one, find one – where ever you are. Party. Space is a place.
"Circling the Earth in the orbital spaceship I marvelled at the beauty of our planet. People of the world! Let us safeguard and enhance this beauty - not destroy it!" - Yuri Gagarin
