 Vanna Bonta Jet Boats To Dinner?
(National Ledger) Vanna Bonta set Missouri abuzz this week, speeding across the water at the helm of a Carrera jet boat and docking for dinner at a lakefront restaurant. Bonta had reportedly been house hunting lake properties in the area over the summer, and was near the Kansas border for a last splash before winter.
The midwestern state that boasts Mark Twain, T.S. Eliot, Chuck Berry and Walt Disney is not unused to fame but the fuss seems to be about more than just celebrity glitter.
"This isn't about Hollywood," one person put it. "Vanna Bonta comes here to write. We see her at Denny's, drinking coffee, she's good folks just like anybody else around here."
Escapades of Vanna Bonta flying in zero gravity, drinking vodka with astronauts, chasing the solar eclipse to Africa, being navel-less like the heroine of her space adventures, Aira Flight, and inventing space wear to help colonize weightless environments, to name a few, provide some of the more unique gossip.
One local who admitted having sold a picture of the audacious novelist bragged that, as a teen, Vanna Bonta wore a six-shooter slung low -- just like Jesse James, also from Missouri, "except she shot tin cans. Damn good shot, too." There was no evidence for the story, but a justification was quickly offered, "A beautiful lady writer with blond ringlets wielding a pistol and a pen is a lot different than these sinister crazies amuck in high schools now."
"We don't pay her any mind when she's here, we let her be," one woman said but admitted, "of course, it's exciting."
Earlier this month, Bonta, a multi-hyphenate talent whose books include the Aira Flight series, was in Los Angeles narrating the audio book version of her novel "Flight."
Rumor has it that the writer is known to call time-outs for solitude.
